The West Coast Rev Clinic by iQuad
March 7-9, 2008 |
Long Beach, WA
Sponsored by the World Kite Museum!
Formed in May of 2006, iQuad is made up
of nearly a dozen pilots from all over the USA who travel the world year round,
performing, teaching and promoting Revolution kite flying as an exciting,
family-oriented sport that is accessible to people of all ages and physical
abilities in a wide variety of wind conditions... iQuad’s team captain John
Barresi is a nine-time US/AKA National Multiline Champion who, with the other
accomplished pilots from the team, will be providing instruction for pilots of
all skill levels in a safe and friendly environment.

This will be a 3 day clinic, addressing individual, pairs and team Rev (quad) techniques, led by 4 or more members of the professional sport kite performance team iQuad... While the team obviously focuses on and recommends Revolutions for their superior flight characteristics and durability, iQuad members will happily provide instruction to anyone with a kite that has the essential quad line flight characteristics such as hovering, reverse, forward and sideways flight.
Friday will be focused more towards the very beginning and intermediate pilots, providing specific tips and tools that will take all the frustration out of setting up and flying your Revolution kite(s)... The very nature of Rev team flying is fun, relaxed and very forgiving, so if you’re the least bit curious, this is a premier opportunity to learn from some of the best in the world.
Registration fees:
$25 youth registration (15 and under)
$40 individual registration (age 16 and over)
$50 family registration (same household & family name)
Proceeds will go to the World Kite Museum for their ongoing projects and support of workshops such as these, and towards the iQuad travel and promotional budget which helps the group travel, teach and promote around the globe throughout the year.
To register, contact the World Kite Museum directly at (360) 642-4020.
What does registration include?
Your registration will include unlimited access to the workshop sessions and instruction on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, as well as automatic entry into a prize drawing for one brand new B-Series Revolution Package which will be drawn and awarded to one of the participants on Saturday, April 8th... Additionally, we will be drawing five winners for yearly subscriptions to Kitelife Magazine (www.kitelife.com).
What should I bring?
Clothing & Food:
We recommend each participant come prepared with warm clothing (layers are best), including basic rain gear... Even in the event of inclement weather, those who are comfortable should be prepared to enjoy flying, fun and hijinks, unless the conditions turn absolutely sour, in which case we will move the activities indoors to the Museum for a hands on, interactive workshop using “simulator” techniques.
Also, be sure to pack a lunch, water and sun block! The natural flow of our beach workshops allow for people to relax and have downtime as people cycle through the learning process... While we won’t be taking an official lunch break, you will find plenty of time to breathe, eat and enjoy your day on the beach with other kite fliers.
Equipment:
For the individual skills, any Revolution or similarly capable quad line kite is acceptable, using pretty much any quality or length of lines, although spectra lines are recommended.
For team skills, a Revolution 1.5 of any model (EXP, SLE, B-Series, etc) is required, along with a 120' set of 90lb spectra quad lines, which is generally the accepted international standard for Rev team flying.
While there will be some communal equipment available during the workshop, it would be beneficial to come equipped with 2, 3 and 4 wrap frames, as well as both standard and vented sails to take full advantage of any wind conditions that might come arise.
